Humulin 70/30 vials contains Humulin 70/30 (insulin isophane human and insulin human) is injectable suspension, for subcutaneous use. Humulin N and Humulin R are two different types of Insulin contained. Humulin R (U-100) is short action of regular human Insulin, and Humulin N is an intermediate-acting insulin. They are combined to cover insulin needs after meals, throughout the day, and at night
Humulin 70/30 is available in two formats.
- Prefilled Humulin 70/30 Cartridge/KwikPen.
- Humulin 70/30 U-100 vial.
Supplies needed to give your injection:
- 3 mL or 10 mL multiple-dose HUMULIN 70/30 vial
- U-100 insulin syringe and needle
- Alcohol swabs
- Sharps container (for discarding used needles and syringes)
What is dosage of Humulin 70/30 Vials?
The proportion of rapid-acting and long-acting Insulin in Humulin 70/30 is in a fixed ratio. Therefore independent adjustment of the basal or prandial dose is not possible. Your doctor will adjust the HUMULIN 70/30 dosage based on metabolic needs, blood glucose monitoring results, and glycemic control goals. You should constantly monitor your blood glucose level.
Humulin 70/30 is injected under the skin and not into a vein or muscle. Therefore, the Doses are measured in units. In U-100 Humulin 70/30 there are 100 units/mL. With the Humulin 70/30 vials, use a syringe marked for U-100 insulins.
Do not use Humulin 70/30 if you find the insulin liquid is:
having the white material at the bottom of the bottle
having solid particles
For Subcutaneous Injection:
- Inject Humulin R approximately 30-45 minutes before meals.
- Select a suitable place in the thigh, upper arm, abdomen, or buttocks.
- Keep rotating injection sites to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy and localized cutaneous amyloidosis.
- Do not inject into areas of lipodystrophy or localized cutaneous amyloidosis.
- Do not use Humulin 70/30 Vials intravenously.
- Do not use Humulin 70/30 Vials in an insulin infusion pump.
- Do not mix Humulin 70/30 Vials with any other insulins or diluents.
Warnings and Reactions of Humulin 70/30 Vials
Before using Humulin 70/30 vials, talk to your doctor if you:
- Have liver or kidney problems.
- Take other medicines, especially ones called TZDs (thiazolidinediones).
- Have heart failure or other heart problems.
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant.
- Are you breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
- About all the medicines you take, including vitamins or herbal supplements.
Never share a syringe or pen while using a single-person syringe or pen when injecting Humulin 70/30 U-100 vial with other patient/s, even if you use a new needle. Monitor your condition each time the doctor changes your dose for hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Do not inject Insulin in the same area to prevent lipodystrophy or localized cutaneous amyloidosis.
Symptoms of Hypoglycaemia may include:
- dizziness or light-headedness
- blurred vision
- anxiety, irritability, or mood changes
- sweating
- slurred speech
- hunger
- confusion or drowsiness
- shakiness
- weakness
- headache
- fast heartbeat
- feeling jittery
Allergic Reactions of Humulin 70/30
If using Humulin 70/30 Vials, you must inform your doctor if you find the following symptoms and issues:
Hypersensitivity Reactions – This may include anaphylaxis, generalized skin reactions, rash, angioedema, bronchospasm, hypotension, and shock.
Hypoglycemia – Hypoglycemia can impair concentration ability and reaction time.
Hypokalemia – Humulin R can cause low levels of potassium in your blood.
Medication Errors – Other insulins that have accidentally been substituted for HUMULIN R have been identified during postapproval use.
Peripheral Edema – May cause sodium retention and edema.
Weight Gain – Attributed to the anabolic effects of Insulin.
Immunogenicity – This may cause anti-insulin antibodies to form.
Injection Site Reactions – This may include injection site hematoma, pain, hemorrhage, erythema, nodules, swelling, discoloration, pruritus, warmth, and injection site mass.

Until expiry date – Not in-use – Refrigerated (36° to 46°F[2° to 8°C])
