Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR Pens contain injectable insulin glargine, a form of regular human insulin modified to increase the duration of action. It is also known as basal insulin, as it provides insulin coverage consistently for a full day after a single daily injection. Every package of the Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR Pen has five insulin pens with 3ml of insulin glargine with 100 units/ml concentration.
What is Lantus SoloSTAR Pen used for?
Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR Pen is used for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus and neonatal diabetes mellitus. Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR Pens are typically used with hypoglycemic medications such as metformin and other insulin injection types such as fast-acting (e.g. insulin aspart) or intermediate-acting insulin (e.g. insulin aspart protamine). How does Lantus work?

How to use LANTUS Pen?

The dose of the drug may vary for different patients. The medicine should be taken during or immediately after a meal. You should always follow your doctor’s advice about taking it.

You can spread a serious infection to other individuals or catch a serious infection from them. Without assistance from someone who has been trained to use the LANTUS Insulin SoloStar prefilled pen, individuals who are blind or have vision issues should not use the SoloStar with Lantus Insulin Cartridge.
LANTUS Insulin SoloStar is an injectable prefilled disposable Lantus Insulin Cartridge. You can choose Lantus Insulin doses in increments of 1 unit from 1 to 80. Each dose causes the Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR plunger to move. The plunger won’t advance all the way to the Lantus Insulin Cartridge’s end until 300 LANTUS units have been administered.
What is the dosage of Lantus?
The recommended starting dosage of LANTUS
- For Type 1 diabetes, the dosage is approximately one-third of the total daily insulin requirements. It is recommended to use another short-acting insulin, premeal insulin, to help satisfy the remainder of the daily insulin requirements.
- For Type 2 Diabetes, it is 0.2 units/kg or up to 10 units once daily.
Switching to LANTUS from Other Insulin Therapies
Dosage adjustments are recommended to lower the risk of hypoglycemia when switching patients to LANTUS from other insulin therapies.
When switching from:
- Once-daily TOUJEO (insulin glargine 300 units/mL) to once-daily LANTUS (100 units/mL), (Initially, LANTUS dosage is 80% of the TOUJEO dosage that is being discontinued)
- Once-daily NPH insulin to once-daily LANTUS if NPH is being discontinued.
- Twice-daily NPH insulin to once-daily LANTUS, 80% of the total NPH dosage that is being discontinued.

Warnings and Precautions while using Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR
Along with medication, a proper diabetic diet, exercise, and weight management are vital to control your diabetes. In addition, the blood sugar level can change in many situations, like mental stress or other illnesses. As a result, your doctor may modify your dose.
If you are skipping a meal or exercising strenuously, drinking alcohol, or taking other antidiabetic medicine, Lantus may cause low blood sugar, especially in elderly patients.
What are Side Effects of Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR

Possible other side effects of Lantus Insulin SoloSTAR are as follows:
- Peripheral Edema – sodium retention and Edema, notably if previously poor metabolic control was improved by intensified insulin therapy.
- Lipodystrophy – Administration of insulin may result lipoatrophy – depression in the skin or lipohypertrophy – enlargement or thickening of tissue)
- Insulin Initiation and Intensification of Glucose Control
- Intensification – associated with a transitory, reversible ophthalmologic refraction disorder, worsening of diabetic retinopathy, and acute painful peripheral neuropathy.
- Weight Gain – attributed to the anabolic effects of insulin
